Resources for Businesses

The Central Downtown Business District of Franklin and the Business Districts east and west of Downtown, are important components of the City of Franklin.  Local businesses create jobs, bring visitors to the City and contribute to the overall fabric of the City.  The City, through its business and property owners, concerned residents, the City Council and City Staff are working hard to create new opportunities for local businesses through re-development efforts, tax incentive programs, and cooperative community based initiatives.

You can contact the City Manager, at (603) 934-3900, or Richard Lewis, the Planning and Zoning Administrator, at (603) 934-2341, and we will work to answer any questions you may have.  You can also contact the Franklin Business & Industrial Development Corporation (FBIDC) for additional information on business opportunities.

Specific questions on zoning and land use issues can be addressed to the Planning and Zoning Office at (603) 934-2341.  Depending on the type of business, the location, or whether you want to perform any renovation work, you may need a permit(s) from the City; two permits that might be required are a Sign Permit and a Change of Use Permit.  For the Permitted Use table, to see if your use is allowed in a specific zone, please see Section 305-13 of the Zoning Ordinance for Permitted Uses, Special Exceptions and Special Use Permits.

Thank you and we hope that you will think about bringing your business to Franklin!
