Fire Alarm Division

The Fire Alarm Division is responsible for the care and maintenance of the municipal fire alarm signal system which was established in 1896.

The staffing is part-time and is filled by off-duty personnel when needed.  Currently they maintain approximately 100 fire alarm boxes. Fifty of those one-hundred boxes are master boxes, which protect most of the City’s municipal buildings, largest employers and other larger properties.

The system is comprised of alarm boxes, miles of wire and a control panel which receives the transmission of the activation and repeats it to both the fire and police stations for an immediate notification of emergency personnel.  The every other month testing of the entire system is provided by on-duty suppression personnel.

This division also assists the Municipal Services Department with aerial work for the City’s six controlled traffic control intersections and tree trimming operations when requested.  There is one bucket truck assigned to this division.
