History of FBIDC
Purpose:
When FBIDC was organized in 1995 by a group of local business leaders, there already existed scattered efforts in the community to expand and improve business and industrial expansion and retention. It was FBIDC’s primary goal to establish a well-organized, unified, and single purpose group to pursue these economic development endeavors.
FBIDC sought to find a qualified professional who could build the organization from the ground up and who could develop relationships with not only local industrial and business leaders, but also with the county, state and federal agencies and organizations which exist to help local communities with economic development. The mission of FBIDC would be to promote the expansion of the economic base of the City of Franklin through strategies to make the community an increasingly attractive location to conduct business, to work, to play, and to raise a family. Specific goals included:
To undertake targeted programs designed to assist existing business in remaining and growing, to attract a variety of business types and to encourage and support the creation of new businesses.
To establish and strengthen FBIDC’s effectiveness as the primary agency to successfully promote the economy of Franklin in an innovative and nonpartisan manner.
To work aggressively to improve and promote the City of Franklin’s image as a desirable community for business, industry, and quality of life.
To be a catalyst to ensure that the City’s physical infrastructure and community services are maintained and improved so that the area is a competitive location and an attractive place to work and play.
Organizational Structure:
FBIDC was established as a non-profit corporation [501(c)3] with a voluntary nine person Board of Directors. Initially the directors were appointed by the City Council. Thereafter, the Board of Directors of FBIDC appointed members to fill vacancies. Board members could not serve more than
three, three-year terms. FBIDC was established as an independent corporation with the By-laws approved on November 27, 1995. The City Council appointed the following community and business leaders as members of the original Board of Directors.
