Welcome to the Franklin D.A.R.E. Webpage

We hope that you find this page helpful in learning about the meaning of D.A.R.E. and the important role that it plays in our community.  D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Residence Education.  The D.A.R.E. program was formed in the early 1980’s in Los Angeles, California.  The primary goals of the D.A.R.E. program are to provide students with valuable and effective ways to say no to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and to help students make positive decisions when faced with situations involving bullying, peer pressure, and other conflict.

The City of Franklin has been actively involved in the D.A.R.E. program since the early 1990’s. Currently, the Franklin Police Department has two certified D.A.R.E. instructors who are responsible for instructing the 4th grade curriculum at the Franklin Middle School.  The course is a four week program that targets the dangers of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and peer pressure.  During the four weeks, students engage in open-ended discussions concerning a variety of topics.  Students receive knowledge, and strategies regarding ways to say no to the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

Should you have any questions regarding the ongoing D.A.R.E. program please feel free to contact us.  We would be happy to answer any questions that you may have.
