Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention has always been an important aspect of the Franklin Fire Department.  Deputy Andrew Nadeau was a big part of bringing “Fire Prevention” into the schools of Franklin by writing his own curriculum for grades 1 – 4.  The Department still carries on the tradition of going to the schools during Fire Prevention Week in October.

National Fire Prevention Week is observed in the United States during the week (from Sunday to Saturday) in which October 9 falls.  Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire, the tragic 1871 conflagration that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres.  The fire began on October 8, but continued into and did most of its damage on October 9, 1871.

Feel free to stop in the Fire Station anytime for a quick peek of the trucks.  If you would like a tour of the Fire Station and Museum, please call to make an appointment at 934-2205.
