The Franklin Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Playground Program is based in Odell Park. This summer’s program will begin on Tuesday, June 24 and continue for eight weeks ending on Monday, August 18.  There is no camp July 4th or July 14th.  The Playground Program is for children six through twelve years old.  (Children must be six or completed kindergarten and cannot be thirteen by July 1, 2008.)  First time registrants should bring a birth certificate.  Our daily program will run from 9:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday.  *Supervision is provided from 8:30am until 3:30pm.  All Summer Playground Programs include breakfast and lunch.  All playground participants will receive a packet describing the playground program along with the different trips and events that are planned for the summer.

 

Program Information

All eight weeks, June 24-August 18, cost $240 (resident)/ $300 (non-resident).  If you are interested in registering your child by week, you may choose from the week(s) below; cost is determined by week.  There is a 25% surcharge for non-residents.  Each child is eligible for free breakfast and lunch.  All prices are final; trips may be canceled or changed due to inclement weather.

A $25.00 fee will be charged, yearly, for children who need Early Drop Off or Late Pick Up.

A $50.00 fee will be charged, yearly, for children who need both Early Drop Off and Late Pick Up.

A $2.50 fee will be charged, daily, for children who need Early Drop Off or Late Pick Up.

A $5.00 fee will be charged, daily, for children who need both Early Drop Off and Late Pick Up.

Summer Playground Program Registration Information

 

Registration Date:

Registration will begin on Monday, April 28, 2008; non-resident registration begins Tuesday, May 27, 2008.

 

 

Payment Information:

Twenty-five percent (25%) of the total fee is due at registration.  The total fee must be paid by Friday, June 13, 2008.  If payment in full has not been made by June 13th, your child will no longer be eligible for the program.  Please note that your child is not considered fully registered for the summer program, until you have paid in full.

 

 

Family Package: 

The first two children will pay full price, and any child after that will pay half price for the full summer

program.

 

 

Non-Resident Fee:

Out of town playground program registrants are assessed a 25% surcharge. All other programs (swim, golf, etc.) are assessed a 50% surcharge for all out of town registrations.

 

 

Refunds:

No fee will be refunded after the program begins.  This policy is strictly enforced.  If a program is canceled, you will be notified and the full fee will be refunded.

 

Swim Lessons

 

The Franklin Parks and Recreation Department is offering swim lessons at Webster Lake’s Griffin Beach.  Classes are 45 minutes long between 9:00am until 12:00pm.  Please note, dates and times may conflict with other programs.  Children must be six by July 1, 2008 or completed kindergarten in order to register for swim lessons.  Wednesdays will be reserved for make-up days as needed.  The cost for swim lessons is $25.00 (resident)/$37.50 (non-resident) per child.  There is an enrollment limit of 10 children per class.

Please sign your child up for the appropriate Red Cross Level.

Level 1:         Water acclamation, getting face wet, blowing bubbles.

Level 2:         Learn how to float, go under water for objects, start of crawl.

Level 3:       Swim without assistance to buoy lines (25 yards) and are able to rotary breath.

Level 4:         Skill development, front/back crawl, elementary backstroke, breast stroke etc.

Level 5+:      Endurance, diving, skill development.

 

Youth Summer Activities

 

 

Junior Golf Program

 

 

The Franklin Parks and Recreation Department is offering an six-week Junior Golf Program through the Mojalaki Golf Club.  Lessons meet on Tuesdays, July 8 - August 12 between 9:00am – 12:00pm. Please note: dates and times may conflict with other programs.  Transportation will be provided to and from the golf course from the Recreation Center.  Participants will receive instruction through the various aspects of golf as well as etiquette, trouble shots and rules by golf instructor Curt Mahoney.  Ages seven and above are welcome, participants will be divided into Beginner, Advanced Beginner and Intermediate classes at the time of registration; the cost for this program is $30.00 (resident) / $45.00 (non-resident).

 

 

 

Drama Production

 

The Franklin Opera House, Casey Family Services and the Franklin Parks and Recreation Department are proud to sponsor F.A.C.T (Franklin Area Children Theater) for children.  Children from grades K-8 will have the chance to work with a trained theater director, and learn basic on-stage theater skills as well as technical aspects of theater. The students will meet 1-2 days per week and prepare for the final two performances of "Jungle Book" on Friday, August 15th.  The performance will entail acting, singing and dancing.  The program is being directed by Jule Finley who has been directing high school and community theater for over twenty years, and founded Footlight Theatre in 1995.   There is a $25.00 (resident)/ $37.50 (non-resident) fee for participants.

 

 

 

Counselor In Training Program

 

 

A Counselor in Training (CIT) Program is available, through the Franklin Parks and Recreation Department, for teenagers ages 13-15 years old.  This specialized program will offer the CIT a chance to gain experience in the area of summer recreation programming and supervising children ages 6-12.  The CIT Program runs for eight weeks (June 24-August 18) during the Summer Playground Program.  For a complete description of the responsibilities and expectations for potential CIT’s please stop by the Franklin Parks and Recreation Department.  Interested individuals need to write an essay on why they would like to become a CIT.  After essays are screened, the Franklin Parks and Recreation Department will arrange an interview with the individual; only 15 CITs will be accepted.  There is a $25.00 (resident)/$37.50 (non-resident) fee for this program.

Diamond Star Baseball and Softball Camps

 

 

Diamond Star’s baseball and softball camp will be held in Odell Park July 7 - 10 from

9:00am - 11:30am.  The camp is for ages 5-15 and the cost is $85.00.  This camp will involve bunting, throwing, hitting, infield and outfield play as well as base running.  For more information you may contact the Franklin Parks and Recreation Department or visit www.diamondstarcamps.com.

 

 

 

Women’s Softball League

 

Women (18 and older) are invited to participate in the Franklin’s Women’s Softball League.  This league accepts individual and team registrations.  Each team will play one to two games a week beginning the last week in June.  For more information please contact Danielle at 603-674-8390. 

 

 

 

Boston Red Sox Trip

 

 

The Franklin Parks and Recreation Department is taking a trip to see the Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles on Friday, August 29th at 7:05pm.  A coach bus will transport participants to and from the game.  The bus will be departing the Franklin Recreation Center at 4:00pm.  A maximum of 50 people will be accepted. Registration and payment are to be completed by July 28th.   The cost for this event is $45.00.

Proulx Community Center:

Beaches:                                                  

The City of Franklin operates two beaches on Webster Lake.  Lifeguards are on duty seven days a week starting June 24 through August 15.  Lifeguard hours are 10:00am until 6:00pm.  An adult must accompany children under the age of fourteen. Parking permits are required weekends and holidays. Residents may obtain permits at Franklin City Hall.  Non-residents may purchase permits ($5.00 per car) from on duty lifeguards or the Parks and Recreation Department.
