Fire Permits
State of NH law (RSA 227-l:7, I & II) requires that every
person, firm or corporation who kindles or causes to be kindled
any fire, or shall burn or cause to be burned any material where
fire could communicate to woodlands SHALL
obtain a written fire permit from the forest fire warden in
the town or city where the fire will be kindled. An exception
is allowed when the ground where you are burning is covered with
snow, however, we ask that you still notify us by phone
(934-2205) as a courtesy. Permits are issued at the fire
station (59 West Bow St.) during daytime hours and you must get
a permit for the day that you intend to burn. Each permit is
only valid for a single day for the hours of 5 PM to 9 PM unless
there is a steady rain, which at that time you can burn during
the day with a permit. There are several other issues that the
property owner (or assigned agent) is required to be aware of
prior to a permit being issued. There is no fee for a fire
permit.
Group Tours
The fire station is always interested in giving tours to school
age children. Please call the station (934-2205) to make
arrangements for this educational field trip with your class or
civic group. We also provide for family tours of the fire
station and/or museum when time allows but all children must be
accompanied by an adult/guardian.
Become a Member
We at the fire department are always looking to find dedicated
individuals that are civic minded and enjoy helping people.
Call members are
those that are interested in helping their community on a
part-time basis. There are currently openings for both
firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians. These
individuals play a major role in allowing the department to
provide the high level of service that we do.
Career Members are those that are interested in helping their
community on a full-time basis. The Franklin Fire Department
requires anyone interested to have taken and passed the State of
NH Statewide Entry Level Firefighter Test and must be at least
an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate. There are no
career employment opportunities at this time.
For the
City’s youth there is an Explorer Post that is open to both boys
& girls from the age of 14-18. This program provides a unique
opportunity for our youth to experience the Fire/EMS service
first hand.
