CURBSIDE RUBBISH COLLECTION GUIDELINES

 

·          Rubbish must be placed out on the designated pick up day prior to 7:00 a.m.  City Ordinance allows rubbish to be placed curbside after 7:00 p.m. on the day prior to pick up.  Containers must be removed from the collection site within 12 hours after pick up.  In an effort to clean up the City, Code Enforcement will actively enforce City ordinances relating to solid waste disposal.

 

·          Rubbish should be placed off the traveled way, between the sidewalk and the edge of the pavement or improved portion of the street.  If no sidewalk exists, then containers shall be placed within four feet from the roadway.  City crews will not traverse private property to pick up rubbish.

 

·          Capacity for rubbish receptacles are not to exceed 32 gallons and need to be easily handled by one person.  Metal or plastic barrels with covers and handles are acceptable, as well as heavy-duty, seamless plastic bags.

 

·          The types of rubbish collected are limited to the following:  table and kitchen garbage, paper and paper boxes and similar burnable waste.  Table and kitchen garbage, if wet, shall be thoroughly drained and wrapped.

 

ITEMS NOT PICKED UP BY CITY CURBSIDE SERVICE

  

·          Stones, sand, bricks, tires, construction and demolition materials, electronics (computers, TV’s, microwaves, etc.) auto parts, paint, waste oil, hazardous waste, appliances (stoves, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, etc.), propane tanks or pressurized containers, household furniture, trees, limbs, brush, garden refuse, leaves and hot ashes.  Most of these items are accepted at the Transfer Station at designated areas at the facility.

 

·          Any spillage, such as that resulting from animals, weather conditions (wind/snow/rain), etc., from any container shall be the responsibility of those placing out trash or the property owner.  Also, keep the area where you place your trash neat and clean!

SPECIAL DATES TO REMEMBER

  

·          Leaf pick-up begins the first Monday in November, annually.  This pick-up follows the weekly rubbish route and takes about four (4) weeks to complete.  Leaves shall be raked into one large pile 3 feet off the road.

 

·          Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is held at the Municipal Services Garage on the last Saturday in July, annually.
