March to the Mailbox And Final Blitz For Mailing Back Census Forms

Dear 2010 Census Partners:

Did residents of your community March to the Mailbox Today?  Today marks the one-week countdown for people to mail back their 2010 Census forms. Households that send in their forms after Friday, April 16 , may still get visited by census workers when they begin going door-to-door to obtain census information in May.

To learn more, please join our teleconference with Director Robert Groves at 11:30 am EDT on Wednesday, April 14. The conference number is 1-800-593-0695 (participant passcode: 2010 Census). Please dial in early to allow time for the operator to place you in the call. There is no need to RSVP.

Here’s how you can help urge people to act in time and understand what happens if they delay:

  • Post the 2010 Census countdown widget http://2010.census.gov/2010census/involved/index.php on your web sites, Facebook and Twitter pages.
  • Promote the benefits of mailing back forms in your daily membership and external communications. On each day of the countdown, we will highlight on our 2010 Census Web site a key benefit to communities for participating in the 2010 Census.
  • The Census Bureau is training more than 600,000 temporary workers and identifying households around the country that will be visited by census workers from May to July. Although households are encouraged to mail back their forms as soon as possible, there is a chance they may still receive a visit from a census worker despite having sent in their forms.

Remember, There's Only 7 Days Left To Mail Your Form Back!

And, thanks again for your support of the 2010 Census.

Dear Census Partner:

We hope that you enjoy the attached August Activities Update. We've attached it in .pdf and .jpeg format. In this issue, you'll find an article about how to link to the 2010 Census website. Linking to www.2010Census.gov is the easiest way you can help promote the census, and we encourage you to add a link today. Below, we have attached linking instructions in both English and Spanish. We've also attached graphics that you can use as buttons that site visitors click on to connect to the 2010 Census site. We appreciate your continued efforts to support the Census.

Best,

Boston Regional Census Center

Address Canvassing: Coming to Your Neighborhood

Beginning in April 2009, U.S. Census employees will visit every community during the first major field activity in preparation for the 2010 Census.

What is Address Canvassing?

By visiting addresses in every community, the Census Bureau will know where to send questionnaires and enumerators in 2010. Using hand-held computers, Census employees will walk through your community to identify the location of every housing unit. This is how it will work:

1)      Employees will make a courtesy visit to each housing unit.

2)      They will verify the address.

3)      Using the hand-held computer, the Census employee will capture the address and GPS coordinates for the housing unit.

This is an extremely important field operation as it lays the groundwork for the success of other 2010 Census operations that follow. Address canvassing will take place in April, May and June 2009. Your cooperation and patience is truly appreciated.
